Welcome to the first ever Moament! 🐰🦊🧸🐿🐧
Moament is a bi-weekly newsletter on TXT and MOA by MOA.1
Each Moament comes with three sections: TXT updates, member updates, and MOA Ments. This time, Michael also wrote about TXT’s journey over the years (with an excerpt of his essay for Beomgyu’s birthday). All information and contents are generously linked.2 Feel free to skip around (it’s 5k words, after all).3
Summary: A lot has happened in the last two weeks (220218 - 220303). Yeonjun recovered from COVID-19 and released PS5 with Taehyun. Huening Kai’s cover Sk8er Boi received compliments from Avril Lavigne herself. TXT won more major awards. And now we are at the biggest day of the Tomorrow X Together kingdom - our three year anniversary!!
If you like Moament, please share with friends and retweet! Your help is greatly appreciated. You can always DM @moament304 on Twitter for feedback, recommendations, stories, and literally anything TXT/MOA related.
Whew, today is the day! I’ve been preparing this since mid-February, but I still feel so nervous to hit Publish. To get more energy, I’m going through all of TXT’s music starting from Blue Orangeade… I’m really happy that a newsletter about TXT is happening. Hope you can join us! - Michael
TXT Updates
Three-Year Anniversary & Concert(s)!
0304 is a special day for TXT and MOA. TXT have been with us for three full years now. Isn’t that so rare and beautiful? 🥰
It may feel like yesterday for many MOAs, who’ve watched TXT grow since Day 1 (190304). But no MOA is ever too late to the party - we are just getting started on this journey called Tomorrow X Together. Under one dream, we all come together to build a new tomorrow.
TXT will host 2 MOA X Together concerts on 03/05 - 03/06 (6 pm and 5 pm in KST). You can still get the online tickets on Weverse.
HYBE said we are also going to get more concerts in 2022 (Korean source). Of course, 2022 comeback will happen, so let’s wait for more exciting updates.
220206 was 1000 days since TXT’s debut. The first 100 days are usually the most nerve-wracking for an idol group, but the first 1000 days actually determine the future. We can agree that Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai have done phenomenally well and the next 1000 days will be just as memorable.
2022 Dream Week - MOA Production
Each year TXT kickstarts DREAM WEEK one week before anniversary to celebrate with MOAs (here is a great explainer). This year’s theme is MOA Production as TXT enters the workforce, following 2020’s MOA Academy and 2021’s MOA Campus.
There is a lot of content:
Introduction video to MOA Production
The official photos ‘Dreamgraphy’ posted on Weverse.
TXT remade Drama using 2021 MOA Campus footage.
‘2021.txt’ interview (thanks to translations by @translatingTXT).

More official photos ‘365.txt’ posted on Weverse.
Special edition of T-MI from footages over the last three years.
MOA Production videos (Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun, Huening Kai).
Contents Strategy meeting (where the five members talk to MOAs).
Enjoy them to your heart’s content (no pun intended, haha)!!

Songs, Covers, Releases
Tis the special season. So many things are happening even without a comeback.
Huening Kai released his cover of Avril Lavigne’s classic Sk8er Boi on 220219. It is so good even Avril herself approves (and Hyuka was excited to say the least).4 BTW: Avril’s Let Go was from 2002, the same year that Huening Kai and Taehyun were born!
Then, as if that’s not enough, Yeonjun and Taehyun released the single PS5 with Anti-Romantic songwriter Salem Ilese and producer Alan Walker. It was a complete surprise. MOAs only found out after Taehyun’s 220221 duet with Salem’s 220125 TikTok. PS5 was released on 220222 and click here to stream!5
TO DO & Videos
Our favorite TO DO is back with episodes 72 (V Live, YouTube, Weverse) and 73 (V Live, YouTube, Weverse). Watch the boys fight over the title of spring fairy featuring cute little sprouts on their heads and Beomgyu cussing Yeonjun like crazy.
Wait, there’s more! Watch TXT’s behind-the-scenes at the 2022 Golden Disk Award (and here) where they won Bonsang (Best Album), and the documentary behind the TXT x Enhypen dynamic performance.
Interviews
TXT began March 2022 with their very own Elle Men Korea feature, with the teaser here! The interviews are released in early March with the first one on Soobin, Yeonjun, and Huening Kai and the second one on Beomgyu and Taehyun. You can read the excellent translations by @translatingTXT and watch their emoji interview.
TXT also made the cover of GQ Japan as 2021 Men of The Year! Watch their cute interview video here.
And don’t forget the Lotte Duty Free photos!
Awards
On 220216 Taehyun and Huening Kai dropped a surprise TikTok video holding two TikTok awards saying “la la la la la shh… living ma life.” HYBE confirmed that TXT won the gold and silver TikTok Creator Award for crossing 10 million and 1 million followers respectively.6 Let’s wait for the day for 20M, which will be quite soon!
On 220302 Tomorrow X Together won the Hero of The Year award by BandLab NME as the first Korean act. Congratulations to the boys!7
0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You) was also nominated for Best K-Pop Song at the 2022 Korean Music Awards, which is a big deal given only critics and judge panels can cast votes. This says a lot about TXT’s music quality.8
Charting Data
For charting data I rely on @TXTCHART_KR and @TXTChartData. Given how diligent these MOAs are, only major milestones will be featured. This is actually a good reminder for us MOAs to not only watch Twitter clips and edits, but also go on YouTube and music streaming platforms to actually improve metrics.9
Blue Hour has passed the 100M streams milestone on Spotify!
Anti-Romantic also passed the 100M Spotify streams milestone (while I was sleeping).10
More Spotify data here.11 Note how TXT’s Spotify monthly listeners have jumped from 5.5 million in 220218 to 6.45 million as of 220303, a 17% growth in 2 weeks!12
Once again, TXT and their beloved hyungs have done something impressive.
PS5 stream data.
As of social media on 220303, @TXT_bighit has 9M followers, @TXT_members has 11.3M followers, @TXT_bighit_jp has 2.3M followers, TXT Youtube has 8.8M subscribers, @txt_bighit (on Instagram) has 11.4M followers, @txt.bighitent (on TikTok) has 15.8M followers, V Live channel has 7M members, and TXT Weverse has 5.4M members.

MOA Ments
This is the experimental section of Moament. The long-term plan is to share notable MOA content like threads, long-form writing, fan art, fan edits, and everything in-between. For now, selection relies on Michael’s judgement and what gets recommended by readers.23
There is no restriction on what you can share, as long as you credit the original owner. DM, comments, and even tweets are all good ways to reach Moament.
If your posts are selected, feel free to get in touch!24 Perhaps there can be more posts just for MOA related content in the future.
Michael’s Corner - On TXT’s 3 Years
Each playlist is Beomgyu’s friend. Listen to my 0304 playlist here.25
There are many things to say on this special day, but I’m sure every MOA feels like this.
Three years. It’s both a long and short time. It’s long because, well, it’s more than 1000 days. People often transition from one life stage to the next within this timeframe.26 But it’s also very short - you probably have memories from years ago that still feel like yesterday.
And this dichotomy is exactly what TXT makes MOAs feel. Just look at The Dream Chapter: Star photos. Time really flies.
In a very weird sense, following TXT over the years feels like writing my own biography, because they are so embedded in my life.27 It’s like watching my dear friends go through trials and tribulations and finally making it. I’ve felt every possible emotion on the spectrum during this process.28
And because of that, we witness how growing up fares in such a transparent and sometimes painful way. What people often think only happens to them (e.g. doubt, hurt, fear, lacking motivation) turns out to affect many people, including those far beyond our reach like TXT and BTS. TXT is not the first nor the last K-Pop group to openly document their journey, but they are special in taking this idea of growth really seriously.29
Let’s go back to their pre-debut years.
Yeonjun joined Big Hit in 2014, when BTS just finished “school trilogy” and Boy In Luv was the major hit. He stayed as a trainee for five freaking years (!!) when it wasn’t clear whether BTS or Big Hit would even make it in the K-Pop world.30 Just as Big Hit and Hitman Bang have taken Yeonjun in, Yeonjun has placed his bet on Big Hit as well. If you consider how many trainees quit for any valid reasons, you will perhaps understand why Yeonjun cries when he listens to Maze in The Mirror.31 Fortunately, he doubled down and worked harder than anyone could imagine, earning his legendary trainee status and now leading the 4th generation K-Pop wave with his brothers-in-arms. For that I am forever proud of him. Talent blossoms with tenacity and makes the beauty that much more special.
Beomgyu’s story is all too personally familiar.32 Because Big Hit scouted him (and even accommodated his school schedule) and decided for him to debut right there and then, that left perhaps the heaviest burden on Beomgyu’s shoulders. Now he had to catch up to everyone with little relevant background. He went through plenty of struggles and moments of self-doubt to manifest these emotions in Maze in The Mirror. But he made it in two years (an incredible achievement in the K-Pop world).
Soobin kept his first year as a trainee a secret. He was very shy and had heavy doubts about pursuing the idol career, even though he wanted to be a singer. Taehyun dreamt of singing on stage but kept it a secret from everyone including his family, working tirelessly behind the scenes to prove himself with only hard work. Huening Kai didn’t pass many auditions with his sister (who is awesome), but finally made it at Big Hit.
I’m skipping many details of their pre-debut years, because that alone would amount to an essay. Just remember that on top of training, they all had to go to school. Being the last two to join, Beomgyu and Huening Kai were so overworked they would fall asleep (euphemism for collapse) during the middle of the day.33 Look at Beomgyu’s schedule for example:
Those days, my whole life was dance lessons, vocal lessons, writing songs, washing up at home, going to school, then back to lessons. Just repeating that over and over again while getting only three hours of sleep. (Weverse Magazine 201105)
Monthly evaluation is a notorious process and Big Hit’s evaluation process is no better under Bang PD’s high standards. That is why when one member passed each evaluation the others would be so happy for him and often shed tears.34 On the contrary, when one monthly evaluation didn’t go well (which is bound to happen given the complexity of life), the effect is devastating and downright demoralizing. Through this process, the five members (and many more trainees who didn’t make it) had to push through, keep the fight in them, and often support one another. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes moments MOAs or any K-Pop fans don’t know and will never know. It is literally a business and world of blood, sweat, and tears.
When TXT first debuted in 2019, there were as much negativity lashed at them as positive reception. They were under so much pressure to do well as a rookie group given their ties to BTS, even Bang PD acknowledged that publicly.35 TXT members faced a very different type of adversity than their sunbaes.36 Haters were already piling on, saying things like TXT didn’t deserve rookie awards and to chart so well right after debut, or how Big Hit just bought their way for TXT. The infuriating thing is, certain ARMYs (whose actions I will not forgive as a fellow ARMY) were doing that to the exact group they should most ardently support.37
During that year, how did TXT feel? Nervous, anxious, momentarily doubtful, that’s for sure. But what did they do instead? They remained humble, kept working, learned from everyone like sponges absorbing water, and possibly rested very little on their free time just to go one step further. Like Yeonjun once said, TXT would just prove with their results. Let’s not even get started with how the name of MOA came to be…38
TXT pushed through adversity, challenges, and often downright hate, and we have all watched them grow and blossom. One thing to always remember is that Yeonjun was only 19 when TXT debuted, which meant Huening Kai was not even 17. That fact should always stay in our mind, when we think about the harsh reality TXT has faced (and idols in general).
But through all this hardship comes the beauty of life - love, support, and rejoice. Now TXT and MOAs can look back at those tough times and just smile about it. But we all know how many sleepless nights, how many tears, and how many frustrating moments this moving on (thus growing up) have taken.
And that is exactly what I think MOAs should be proud of. We have backed a group deserving of such love, support, and happiness. Like I wrote before:
What does Tomorrow X Together stand for? What is One Dream? What does Moment of Alwaysness mean? These questions have been on my mind since 2019.
The answer is obvious: there is no definitive answer. We are here to love and cherish TXT together. We are simply here to be with each other in this moment, today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, together.
Tomorrow X Together may be known as the leader of fourth-generation K-Pop to many people, but to MOA they are five wonderfully talented young men, who are inviting us on a journey with them. We are here to live, to laugh, and to love.
Like Yeonjun and Taehyun sang in PS5, we are all in this for the long run. And we should indeed be ready to let them focus on the long term. By letting TXT be their most authentic selves and encouraging them to push themselves (naturally), they will eventually be the most successful in their own right. Remember, sales and revenue and streams are not the only metrics that matter. How deep TXT affects fans in a positive fashion and making themselves better in the process is much more important.
That is not to say metrics don’t matter! @TXT_bighit recently changed its account description to feature the YouTube and TikTok channels, so MOAs should surely be more active on that front. In the newest video, Taehyun wanted to hit 1 million views per main content and 10 million views for choreography videos. That is not impossible if current MOAs stay cognizant of their information consumption.
On the other hand, 2021 has been more than a pleasant year for TXT in my opinion. It was a busy year, but it was also a good year. The group grew closer than ever, found a joint voice that only they could enthusiastically present, and got to make haste slowly.39
So here is to a new year for TXT and MOAs. Let’s keep living our best lives, support one another, do what we can to support TXT (in numbers and morals), and be happy in this journey together. After all it’s been #3ShiningYearsWithTXT 🐰🦊🧸🐿🐧
If you’ve made this far, I cannot thank you enough. If even one of you like this, then that’s enough motivation for me to keep Moament going. It isn’t easy (this draft took at least 15 hours to write and edit), but that’s what you do for things you love, right?
I want to thank a few MOAs who have been supportive to my effort and crazy dream: @beomieduel, @txtgenleaders, @fellforgyu, @txtdcm and many more. I hope to meet more of you in the future.
Anyways, we are at a point where I actually feel comfortable asking you to subscribe to receive future posts. Please also follow and share our Twitter to let more MOAs know about our existence! Thank you!! 🐰🦊🧸🐿🐧
Choi Beomgyu: Le Prince de Dualité (excerpt)
Below is a selection of the essay I wrote for Beomgyu’s upcoming birthday. I will release the full version on Saturday 220312, so it’ll be 220313 in Seoul.
Beomgyu is a prince of duality (Le Prince de Dualité) who embodies love and beauty in a multitude rare in this world. And we are only at the very beginning of this journey of a lifetime with him! We are the luckiest companions.
At its foundation, duality is about figuring out where we stand on different spectra. Because no one is completely A nor its opposite B, but somewhere in-between, personality tests cannot describe us accurately. We have a little bit of A and B.
At the same time, duality is what makes us human. There are internal conflicts that sometimes lead to reconciliation and other times lead to less-than-desired outcomes. Fortunately, there are also qualities that complement one another and make us more capable of love, joy, and empowerment.
Beomgyu is one of a kind in that regard. He embodies duality in the most positive and admiring sense. I think bamtoris can agree on his reality distortion field. We cannot take our eyes off of him not just because he is dashingly handsome (he really is!), but because there is something else about him that tugs our hearts.
Watching Beomgyu over the years feels like watching a bildungsroman protagonist budding heads with the little prince (he once painted the book). The former charges forward and looks for opportunities to grow, while the latter stops, looks up the sky and wonders why adults are so boring and how to make his happy memories last just a tad longer. Bildungsroman protagonists tend to look in hindsight on remembrance past. The little prince looks at the present with mighty affection and focus.
Choi Beomgyu does both.
He cherishes past memories (even the not-so-happy ones), but he also enjoys the presence of people during those moments, whether it’s practice, performance, dorm life, etc. The modern life forces us to look at the present without enjoying it and robbing us of such fond memories, but Beomgyu is like our true North Star, showing us that it is possible to focus on what makes life beautiful.
Going through Beomgyu’s old interviews and early videos reminds me why I admire him in the first place. While he is en route to make himself a better, kinder, and happier person (note: I use “make” because he is actively choosing that path), he has never forgotten his origins, the memories that connect him to his pillars (family, friends, love), and his determination to become that pillar for others in his life.
Beomgyu constantly changes for the better as he tries to better understand himself.40 But at the same time he stays true to who he is, preserves his acute awareness of what makes him him and contemplates the deeper things that move us human beings. That’s why many bamtoris consider him to be an angel in human form.
While the sun brightens up people’s world, the moon quietly guides people through moments of loneliness, fear, and hurt. This duality between the sun and the moon is very Beomgyu. Every bamtori knows about the 3 AM and 3 PM metaphor because we see that time after time.
Beomgyu channels the moon when he reminisces. Despite being much dimmer than the sun, the moon calms his heart. It takes up the little prince inside. As Crystal Bell beautifully writes:
He also finds strength and energy in the stars. When he leaves the company building, his eyes tend to wander upward, still a Daegu boy at heart. The thing about living in a sprawling city is that you often forget to look up. You're so focused on moving straight ahead that you don't take the time to look around you, — to gaze at the moon and the watercolor sky and to imagine “what if?” (Paper Magazine)
We also see how bright he shines. Whether it’s singing the mosquito song to make Big Hit staff laugh or when he does the little wiggle dance after fooling Jessi, he beams happiness and energy into everyone’s heart. When he is on stage, your eyes will naturally drift towards him even if he’s behind Yeonjun (who is also glistening).
Yet time and time again, MOAs long for the moon side of Beomgyu, because they know deep down that Beomgyu is a healer. Plants may grow under sunlight, but only the moonlight can mend our broken hearts. When I read Beomgyu’s 2019 reply to a fan expressing how TXT helped them through depression, I knew he is a keeper. His empathy envelopes you like Baymax, a teddy bear.41
The thing about depression is that it's something that even if you say is okay will suddenly come find you again. I'm also well aware of how it can make things hard for you to the extent that other people won't even be able to imagine. (translation: @translatingTXT)
His reason for sharing his painful experience with MOA instead of offering direct advice is that “it’s for the best that I dealt with those things first.” I believe him when he says he treats MOAs like his friends.42 He shows genuine concern and care for people in his life. That is why everyone around him lets Beomgyu be Beomgyu, even if it means he yells out of nowhere or pokes the heck out of you. They know how humble he is, how grateful he is, and how caring he is. In turn, he earns and deserves the trust from people left and right.
Beomgyu’s sentimentality and vulnerability are his strengths. His moon side is even more nourishing and rarer than the sun.
You can read our about page to learn more about our jokkomi (tiny) plan.
Sadly many tweets and YouTube videos get truncated. Maybe there can be a separate post just for links in the future.
Michael, Moament’s first editor, will occasionally share his journey as a MOA to invite more MOAs to tell their own stories. For the rest of this issue, he will write in first person.
I remember Sk8er Boi was THE song of my childhood along with Avril’s Complicated. Ah, such good memories…
Given the song is about the girlfriend frustrated with her boyfriend’s video game obsessions, 220222 seems to mean something even more symbolic…
TXT is the second most followed Korean artist on TikTok. The first, of course, is BTS.
The award trophy looks like a middle finger, so Big Hit editors have to blur that out…
Shoutout to the songwriters (including RM) and producers for making this a solid rock jam.
I have a lot of thoughts on how unforgiving the K-Pop industry can be with everything based on hard metrics, but that’s for another day.
There is better gift for 0304 than this.
Apple Music is not included because they do not share listening metrics.
In the future I will analyze Spotify’s streaming data, since I am a statistics major haha.
Taehyun’s frequency evens out Beomgyu’s relative inactivity.
Keeping track of Weverse comments is too tiring, but I will try to make note of a few notable (funny, profound, absurd, etc.) comments in the future.
My prediction is all members will get their own accounts sooner than we expect. I speculate posting frequency to be as such: Soobin as Suga, Taehyun as J-Hope, Huening Kai as RM, and Beomgyu as … Jimin (which I’m more than okay with).
Bungeoppang (붕어빵) is a fish-shaped pastry with sweet red bean fillings or custard. You can also find it as an ice cream sandwich (Binggrae Samanco). Japan’s Taiyaki (鯛焼き) is similar.
The account’s description reads “Doing whatever we want ✨”, which says something.
On an unrelated note, Frank Ocean’s Channel Orange is still a 10/10 full-listen 10 years later. If Frank would ever write for TXT, that song will sweep so many awards (while this guy hasn’t released an album since 2016)…
Yes, he still doesn’t know my name.
I have to say it somewhere, but black hair Taehyun is insanely attractive. Suddenly he seems like someone you may know at school, but is still too cool for you.
It will only get better!
I’m keeping a list of things Moament features, so in the distant future Moament may be able to send official merchandise to contributors.
I chose one song per album to best help with writing and immersing in TXT’s moods.
For example, I’m about to graduate college.
I was a BTS ARMY first (circa 2016), so BTS have also played a big role in my development.
I’m literally the same age as Yeonjun, so the other members are like little brothers to me.
It’s difficult to parse this sentence without going into the weeds.
One thing about retrospective analysis is how people often state what’s now obvious that were more than uncertain and often seemingly impossible at the time. Nothing was guaranteed about BTS at the time, as all OG ARMYs know.
I don’t want to project, but when you invest a quarter of your life as a trainee, how does that experience and hardship not shape who you are, what you do, and how you live??
I wrote about this period extensively in my essay to be related next week.
Those “exaggerated” scenes are real. You have to experience it yourself to understand how crazy that feels.
No one understands that more than Yeonjun.
Of course, TXT is blessed to have BTS members as role models to learn from (though that also comes with pressure in its own way).
This fact plays a big role in the mentality of many different K-Pop fans and is too complicated for me to truly parse.
On a side note, this zero-sum mentality of many K-Pop stans is a serious issue that I’m afraid if left untamed, will end up consuming much of K-Pop and ruin us all in the process. No music world is zero-sum unless you make it so. BTS didn’t cannibalize other third-gen groups. They actually expanded the reach for all K-Pop across the globe and opened the doors for many more Korean artists. How the hell is that not positive-sum??
That was such a terrible moment to live through for TXT, though now I’m really happy Moment of Alwaysness is the proud name we can all swear under.
As a bamtori, I was happy to see Beomgyu resume his bickering and “extra-ness”, but this time in a much more comfortable manner. And like usual, he wrote his name in the supposedly anonymous letter (what a dummy haha).
One of the most common comments about Beomgyu is how much he has grown, but what often slips under everyone’s radar is how we are still UNDER-estimating how much more he will grow. This is an extremely rare case, once again showing how special Beomgyu is.
Is it a coincidence that his emoji is 🧸?
Beomgyu views friends not just as people you spend time with, but people you want to deliberately be there with during even the darkest moments, someone who completes a part of you. To learn more, C.S. Lewis’s The Four Loves has an illuminating chapter on friendship.
